TRANSFORMERS

Prayer: Lord help us to live as aliens, being transformed and transforming others by your Spirit as we live godly lives in this world.

Scripture: Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. 2 Corinthians 3: 17-18 NIV

In the popular movie series, “Transformers,” powerful alien robots camouflaged themselves as everyday earthly vehicles so they would not be recognized or stick out on this planet. Although they have gathered here to protect our planet, the concern of government officials is that some people will be terrified at the sight of them. Sadly, this causes them to live as less than they were made to be.

An interesting parallel exists when you think about the on-going persecutions, laws and lawsuits that fight for religious freedom for every religion on this planet except Christianity. Christian’s religious rights are being violated and even removed on a weekly basis. Polls show that around 76% of Americans claim to be Christians. Serving the One true God, we are equipped with strength, wisdom, perseverance, and even death is not the end of us – yet week after week, we are strong armed to live as less that we were made to be. Recall examples of threats, policies or even personal confrontations that you have experienced where you were expected to keep quiet or even compromise your identity in Christ? Is your school a Christian-friendly environment? Your community? Do you feel free to live and share your faith or do you feel pressured to transform to this world?

This world does not understand that we are here as ambassadors of the Most High God, to serve, love and teach so that we can live as one nation under God. Living under God is not a position of sub-servant slavery but in freedom, safety and prosperity. Staying under God’s shadow of authority allows us to remain under His shadow of protection and provision.

1 Peter 2:11-12 even reminds us that we are aliens on this planet, earth is not our home, we are citizen of heaven. Verse 11 says, “Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul. 12 Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.” NIV
