CEAI CALLS FOR QUALITY TEACHER RECRUITMENT EFFORTS

Classroom learning is most effectively supported by teachers who have pursued high-quality preparation programs, according to research. Motivating the most promising students to pursue careers in education and providing rigorous teacher preparation is key to having the most effective teachers in our classrooms. Quality education preparation programs work to develop candidates’ teaching abilities and ready them for the realities of the classroom, further raising their chances of success.

Christian Educators Association International, along with 24 other organizations, has issued a joint statement affirming their strong support of high standards in education and calling for united efforts to recruit quality and diverse candidates into the teaching profession.

The full statement can be found at http://bit.ly/Teaching2017.

These entities understand that educators have long been struggling under the weight of a negative narrative about the teaching profession as well as the increased scrutiny and demands placed on them. Additionally, enrollment in teacher education programs has declined 30% nationally since 2008, and the number of high-achieving undergraduate students considering a career in education is at its lowest level in decades.

“A key indicator of the public’s lack of respect for the teaching profession can be seen in the declining numbers of people entering the profession,” stated Kappa Delta Pi Executive Director Faye Snodgress. “As an organization that is committed to ensuring that all children have a highly effective teacher, KDP invited other education organizations to be a part of an effort to change the narrative and recognize the teaching profession for the noble profession that it is.”

Through the collaboration and partnering of our organizations, we are positioning ourselves to promote education as an attractive career, actively participate in teacher preparation, and continually support the career-long professional growth of teachers. We deeply value the collaboration and support of our colleagues in helping to amplify our voice.

“Christian Educators Association International is proud to sign on to this broad coalition in supporting the recruitment of talented individuals to the teaching profession,” stated Finn Laursen, CEAI Executive Director. “It is imperative that we fill the ranks of educators with America’s finest and most talented citizens. From a Christian perspective it is also imperative that we encourage fellow believers to see education as a potential call into a powerful venue of ministry whether called into public or private education.”
