THE SOLO
March 24, 2022

Prayer: Thank You for encouraging me today, dear Lord. Please use me and the qualities and the personality You have given me to make a difference in someone’s life. Amen

Scripture: God is not unjust; He will not forget your work and the love you have shown Him as you have helped His people and continue to help them. Heb. 6:10 NIV

“Pardon me, Mrs. Wilson? Is that you?” I saw the beautiful young woman come running after me as I was leaving the local pizza shop one Friday evening. “Yes,” I said, realizing that this was probably one of my past students. I had given up trying to pretend to remember each one I saw. After all, as a music teacher in two schools, I had thousands of students over the years. “Remember me—Keisha, the one you gave the solo when I was in the fifth grade? I still remember that,” she said. This was such a nice gesture from a lady who could have kept the memory to herself and never spoken up. Teachers experience these occasions only rarely.

We often don’t know what things we do, what decisions we make that affect our students. Some soloists I’ve chosen over the years probably have long forgotten. But others, like Keisha, will always remember. It’s amazing too, that what we think might be a memorable event really wasn’t, and those things we forget that we have done are the things that change lives. Be encouraged, teacher. You won’t know how you have influenced most of your students in this life, but remember, Someone else does!

I love this encouragement. I have several former students who connect with me through social media or I see at church, but as long as the Lord allows I can continue to make a difference, even if I don’t see the fruit right away.

This is so encouraging to read! I am in the middle of a challenging year—my kids rock, but adults in my school are not all on the same page so we end up working against each other rather than with each other. It’s not a very fun or supportive working environment. God sends many whispers each day to remind me I am in the right spot and this devo today is definitely one of those whispers. Thank you!
