A LIVING LOVE LETTER

Prayer: Lord, help me to be a living Valentine, sent to share Your love. Amen
Scripture: The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, Because the LORD has anointed me To bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to captives And freedom to prisoners ; 2 To proclaim the favorable year of the LORD And the day of vengeance of our God ; To comfort all who mourn, 3 To grant those who mourn in Zion, Giving them a garland instead of ashes, The oil of gladness instead of mourning, The mantle of praise instead of a spirit of fainting. So they will be called oaks of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified. Isaiah 61:1-3 NASB
When reading these verses I was immediately drawn to write this devotional for Valentine’s week. As I read, I imagined us as living letters, signed, sealed and delivered by God – a Valentine of sorts – sent, like Isaiah the prophet, to bind up the brokenhearted. As I have said in earlier years, we live in a sighing, crying, dying world. There are people all around us in need of the Good News and a good hug! As a Christian, you have been designed by Creator God and signed with the stamp of His image. The Holy Spirit has sealed you unto the day of redemption and Jesus has delivered you from sin, shame, and the fires of eternal torment – you are signed, sealed, and delivered. Many of you may have an old song bubbling up in your head about now – signed, sealed, delivered, I’m yours… sorry, you’ll be singing that all day, but let it be a reminder and a worship song of sorts, committing to being a living Valentine sent to share the love of Jesus.
Jesus’ sum of the commands, to love God with all of your heart, soul, mind and strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself; heaven is your return address and you have been sent with love, to love.
Do you know someone who is afflicted? Bring them good news. Do you know someone with a broken heart? Bind it up. Who do you know that is a prisoner, a captive ensnared in Satan’s shackles of addiction, abuse, sin, or shame? Proclaim liberty and share the path to freedom. Right now, think of someone who fits these descriptions, someone who is in need of God’s favor, justice, comfort, gladness, and strength? Who comes to mind? Be their holy Valentine.
My prayer for you is that you would know you have been sent as a living love letter into this world.
