HIDDEN HERO
March 02, 2022

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for trusting me with my students. Their lives are precious and I want to make a positive impact. Please give me strategies for their success. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen

Scripture: For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come,  nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8: 38-39 NKJV

We should remind our students that they are not forgotten or overlooked. Sometimes as teachers, we may feel like we are not making a difference in our students’ lives. It may feel like our hard work is going unnoticed. Our Savior vowed that He will never leave or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). Believe Him at His word. Our Heavenly Father does not and cannot lie (Numbers 23:19; Hebrews 6:18; Titus 1:2). Jesus Christ loves us and wants to have a relationship with us. He died on the cross to forgive our sins.

There is nothing that can separate you from His love. You are someone special and have a meaningful impact in your students’ lives. Look at the life of Rahab. Rahab was known as a harlot or prostitute. Her lifestyle was not one of honor. Despite her reputation, God decided to use her in His great plan for the Israelites to defeat Jericho. Joshua, Moses’ successor, was planning to take Jericho because God had promised the land to the Israelites. Joshua sent spies into Jericho to explore the land. Rahab decided to hide the spies after the king learned they were at her house. The king’s guardsmen questioned Rahab about the spies, but she hid them on the roof of her house.

After the king’s guardsmen left in pursuit of the spies, Rahab made some profound confessions that the God of Israel is Lord of all. I believe these confessions of who God is shifted Rahab’s destiny. She went from being a harlot to a hidden hero. I call her hidden because she is only mentioned in the Bible once more in the book of Matthew. The devil thought he would keep Rahab on the path to destruction, but God had a different plan for Rahab. She became part of the genealogy of Jesus Christ!

In exchange for Rahab helping the spies, they agreed to keep her family safe when the Israelites came to destroy everyone in the city. The spies climbed out of Rahab’s window down a scarlet cord. There was only one way the spies could guarantee Rahab’s and her family’s safety. She had to tie that same scarlet cord on her window so the soldiers would know not to harm anyone in that house. I believe that scarlet cord, being red in color, represents the blood of Jesus Christ flowing through the Old Testament. Just as blood was placed on the door posts of the Israelites to keep them safe when the last plague that terrorized Egypt, the scarlet thread, or blood, covered the spies in Jericho and saved Rahab’s family. The blood of Jesus is powerful! I encourage you to plead the blood of Jesus over your students and career. You are not insignificant.
