Prayer: Lord, we ask You to help us see Your hand in all we teach today. Please let those we teach see a new evidence of Your presence in this world.  Amen

Scripture: All of your works will thank you, Lord, and your faithful followers will praise you.
Psalm 145:10 NLT

I looked forward to these lessons, teaching musical style to my fifth graders. I had found some wonderful examples of various artists and arrangements of the spiritual, He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands right out of textbook materials and accompanying tapes. Before school that day, I decided to listen through the excerpts one more time. When I came to a rendition sung by Leontyne Price with a glorious orchestral background, I was confronted by my awesome God, and I worshiped. Yes—right there in my classroom. The same thing happened as I played the piece for the classes that day. I worshiped silently as the music witnessed to me of my Lord, the Creator and Sustainer of all things.

Dr. Cliff Schimmels, a well-loved education professor, used to say that all learning should end with humans saying, “Look what God has done!” This should happen to us in literature classes, in science experiments, in art and music classes, in studying history and mathematics. God wants to break through in our world, so that men and women, boys and girls everywhere see Him.

As you prepare your lessons, teach your subject areas, and examine the seemingly mundane elements of teaching, be on the lookout for God’s handprints on everything. He is the Creator of all, and He would have everyone see Him. Pray that you will see Him in your daily work, and that the Spirit of God will work in your students’ lives as they are confronted with these evidences of a loving and wise Creator.

This was a beautiful devotion and became even more meaningful when I saw the quote by Cliff Schimmels. I taught with Dr. Schimmels at Lee University for 10 years, accompanied him and his wife Mary on the Ukraine Summer Study trip, and valued their friendship. I continue to be moved by the legacy and precious fingerprints that Christian educators leave behind when they depart this life.

I thoroughly love the CEAI devotions.

Glad you reminded us Old Timer’s of Cliff Schimmels. I still have several of his books and refer to them often as I interact with educators even in my twilight years. I was fortunate to be able to have him as our main speaker at a South Carolina Association of Rural Educators annual meeting. As always, he was inspirational and folks talked about his insight for several years following that event. He made the mundane, as do you, inspirational. The Spirit of God truly works through inspired educators who follow His teachings. Amen!,
