NO RECESS TODAY
September 13, 2019

Prayer: I am choosing to learn from You today, Lord, in the life lessons You are bringing to me.  Please open my eyes where I am blind.  Thank You.  Amen.

Scripture: No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening it’s painful!  But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way. Heb. 12:11 NLT

“I’m not comin’ in, and you can’t make me!”

Those were strong words from a fourth grader whom I had just told earned himself fifteen minutes of detention during his recess. Some children just never seemed to benefit from this kind of instruction, even though it was necessary not only for them, but for its example to their classmates.

The author of Hebrews urges us to endure hardship as discipline and submit to it so that we can learn from it. God uses different “hardships” for different people. As our Heavenly Parent, God has many more options than we often do as teachers, and He custom fits our discipline to our need. We need to submit to that discipline, and not try to squirm out of it, or blame someone else for getting us into trouble.

Are you experiencing hard times just now? God’s discipline produces more than punishment. God treats us as His children and, in love, teaches us—for our good. Can we say to Him, “Lord, what are you trying to teach me?” Chances are if we fail to “get” the lesson, we will experience the pain again, until we finally learn and submit to Him.
