LIKE A MOTHER
May 10, 2019

Prayer:  Lord, please show us how to care for our students.  Please remind us of our good memories of our parents.  Thank You for being our caring devoted Heavenly Father.  Amen.

Scripture: “We were gentle among you, like a mother caring for her little children. We loved you so much that we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well because you had become so dear to us.” 1 Thessalonians 2:7-8 NIV

Educators are like mothers in many ways. Most of you spend more waking hours with your students than their parents do. Late school days, work, extra activities and reasonable bedtimes shorten the amount of time parents have with their children. Unfortunately for some, this has led to a “contracting out” of their parental responsibilities including discipline, values, character building and religion.

I am always shocked to hear a parent blame a school or teacher for their child’s problems only to find out that the parents have not done the first thing to help or be involved in their child’s studies or his or her life. Once again, I remind you that your position as Educator is a calling, a higher calling. You give and give just as Paul speaks of in today’s verse, “gentle… like a mother.” You share not just reading and math but “your lives as well.” I just wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you to all of you caring teachers.

Father God, help is to also remember that we are Mom to some of our students without a mother. Let us project your love and peace to their lives today. Let us be ambassadors for you, and shining examples of true, Godly love. Amen.
