THE SOLO
March 15, 2018

Prayer:  Thank You for encouraging me today, dear Lord. Please use me and the qualities and the personality You have given me to make a difference in someone’s life.

Scripture: God is not unjust; He will not forget your work and the love you have shown Him as you have helped His people and continue to help them. Heb. 6:10 NIV

“Pardon me, Mrs. Wilson?  Is that you?” I saw the beautiful young woman come running after me as I was leaving the local pizza shop one Friday evening. “Yes, I said,” realizing that this was probably one of my past students. I had given up trying to pretend to remember each one I saw. After all, as a music teacher in two schools, I had thousands of students over the years. “Remember me—Keisha, the one you gave the solo when I was in the fifth grade?” “I still remember that,” she said. This was such a nice gesture from a lady who could have kept the memory to herself and never spoken up. Teachers experience these occasions only rarely.

We often don’t know what things we do, what decisions we make that affect our students. Some soloists I’ve chosen over the years probably have long forgotten. But others, like Keisha, will always remember. It’s amazing too, that what we think might be a memorable event really wasn’t, and those things we forget that we have done are the things that change lives. Be encouraged, teacher. You won’t know how you have influenced most of your students in this life, but remember, Someone else does!

Don’t know if crying is what you had in mind, but it was in my heart after reading your touching post; I’ve had very few of those moments but enough to know what you state is true, beyond measure when the LORD knows as well and He DOES know & will remember, and some few have come to know the LORD Jesus through these moments apart from the routine school days (daze) in which I’ve found myself so many years. Thank you for the remembrance your post brought to mind and even when students forget, our LORD never does. Not that I’m bragging for there are too many days when my words were not what the LORD of Life would have had me to say but rather encourage and support those who came from such difficult and even terror filled home situations. Not every child forgave me when I asked them to forgive me, but most did, and the LORD always did. I John 1:9.
Thank you, for some precious memories. In Christ, agape
