JESUS IS THE REASON

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for coming.

Scripture: For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. And the government will rest on his shoulders. These will be his royal titles: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6 NLT).

Who among us does NOT, by now, realize it is our ‘Christmas season.’ The frantic pressure to identify and purchase gifts for people, the never ending shopping, the traffic, the parties, the music of  North American traditional ideas that may never have been a reality for any of us who did not grow up in snowy places. What is this time all about, after all? Jesus, that’s what! While it is most likely true that Jesus was born months later than we commemorate, the point is that we do commemorate it. It is the most significant day of the year for Christians and for the societies in which Christianity is permitted.

Who among us needs to know the real reason for the season– Jesus Christ, God made flesh and sacrifice to redeem us from the consequence of our sin. In Him we live and move and have our being for eternity.  Now THERE are reasons for gifts, and parties, and singing, and all manner of celebrations! Let the Christmas season not move you to madness but move you into the most incredible of joys– and God’s unsurpassable peace. Embrace the love God has for you today, this week, all month, all the new year. Discuss it with your ‘wonderful counselor.’ Remain confident and protected in the arms of our “Mighty God.’  Feel safe in the hands of your Everlasting Father.  Receive peace from ‘The Prince of Peace.’  May this advent season be the greatest you have ever experienced.

“Lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God.? Be humble and gentle.? Be patient with each other’s faults because of your love.? Always keep yourselves united with the Holy Spirit and bind yourselves together with peace.”? Ephesians 4:1-3 NLT
