President-elect Donald Trump

whitehouse

The presidential campaign is finally over; I’m confident that is a relief to all.  The people have responded and Donald Trump will be heading to the White House;  I’m confident that is a frustration to some while a time of celebration for others.

So what is the Christian response to be regardless of candidate preference?

Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Romans 13:1

It is no use to question the results or even celebrate them as if our Lord was not aware of what was happening.  Scripture clearly tells us that all authority which would include the presidency was established by God. Whether we believe He made a mistake or we confirm His choice, our obligation is the same.  We have two responsibilities: submit & pray.

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. I Timothy 2: 1-2

Let’s commit to move forward accepting the authority that has been placed over this nation and cover him with prayer for wisdom and godliness. Let’s be the Salt & Light we were called to be and let’s rejoice over the fact that we the people had a voice in the selection.  Let’s filter our speech as others may talk negatively about our new president.

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Ephesians 4:29

Let’s step up to our responsibility to pray regularly for President-elect Donald Trump and all the leaders selected to serve this great nation!
