WHOLESOME

Prayer: Dear Lord, please help me to remember to put a guard over my tongue. The words we choose can speak life or death into one’s life. May I always choose words that are pleasing to you and speak life.

Scripture: Ephesians 4:29 “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that may benefit those who listen.”

So many times our mouth engages before our brain and we are stuck wishing “we hadn’t said anything”. It is important that we distinguish what is beneficial information and what is hurtful or gossip. Many students are doomed before they ever enter the classroom on the first day of each school year because of what has been said about him/her by previous teachers. Have you ever said “you’ll have your hands full with him”, or “Good luck, you’re sure going to need it”? Maybe not those exact words, but even complaining about a student (or a parent) may be heard by someone who will not benefit from your words. Schools are divided, and friends are lost because of unwholesome talk. It is also important to ignore unwholesome talk if it does fall upon our ears. How can each of us carryout the attribute of only letting wholesome talk leave our lips in our daily environment (classroom, hallways, meetings, cafeteria, office, etc.)?
