Daily Devotional – Living a Life Of Giving Thanks To God

By June 14, 2016Daily Devotionals

Prayer: Pray the Lord brings a song of praise to our hearts today.

Scripture: So be careful how you live, not as fools but as those who are wise.  Make the most of every opportunity for doing good in these evil days.  Don’t act thoughtlessly, but try to understand what the Lord wants you to do.  Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, let the Holy Spirit fill and control you.  Then you will sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, making music to the Lord in your hearts.  And you will always give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Eph. 5.15  NLT

How can we be thankful persons?  How might we live in such a way so that we recognize all that the Creator has done for us?  By paying attention to our lifestyle, that’s how.

God’s word here teaches us to ‘make the most of every opportunity for doing good. . .’  We are encouraged to be thoughtful in all actions.  We are directed to make effort to understand the Lord’s will in our lives.  Rather than letting worldly things intoxicate us, we are encouraged to seek to be filled with God’s Holy Spirit and His influence over all we think, say, or do.  The result of living this way is positively musical!  It leads us into ‘singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs. . . ‘  We will be ‘making music to the Lord’ in our hearts.  The result of THAT is that we are equipped to live lives of thanksgiving before our God and Father.

I pray this day finds you singing such thankful psalms, hymns and spiritual songs to God.  Let that tune flow out from your heart to Him.

“. . .lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. Be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other’s faults because of your love. Always keep yourselves united with the Holy Spirit and bind yourselves together with peace” (Eph. 4:1-3)
