Prayer: May we see Your blessings, Oh Lord, when life takes a turn and we fear it is for the worse. Surely, You are there with good things planned for us and our lives. Thank You. Amen
Scripture: And God is able to provide you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. 2 Cor. 9:8 NIV
At the movie theater we had ordered two small bags and a super large bag of popcorn. Just as the previews began my husband noticed that Chandler had almost finished his bag and tried to quietly take it out of his hands to refill it from his super large bag. For some reason Chandler thought that He was taking his popcorn bag away and he began acting uncharacteristically angry, disrespectful and pouted. My husband and I stared at him in disbelief, “What is going on?” I asked. Chandler explained that he thought dad was taking away his popcorn, he thought he was being punished or hurt for no reason. “Has your dad ever punished or hurt you for no reason?” I asked. “No, never,” Chandler answered. We explained that he was just going to fill his bag up with more popcorn, not take it away. Chandler was agreeable to that. If Chandler had waited one minute before reacting he would have seen the blessing. How often have I acted this way when God was trying to bless me and I reacted disrespectfully or hurtfully, thinking I was losing not gaining?
As I pouted about missing the gold finches and beautiful red cardinals outside my windows in St. Louis, hawks and eagles soared over my home in Colorado. I did not lose friends when I moved, I gained more. I am not losing health; I am gaining opportunities to minister and to glorify God.
So many times I react as if God is hurting me when He is really blessing my socks off. I can clearly see how experiences and struggles I have gone through were preparation for ministry.
My prayer for you is that you would see God’s blessing where you had not seen it before.
